The other day Florence King and now Camille Paglia

What a week of treats. The other day I read a column by Florence King; and today I ran across this new column by Camille Paglia.

Paglia is in fine form. First she spitefully sinks her fangs into Hillary Clinton, who's always worthy of attack. Then she pauses for a little mild praise of Dick Cavett like a cobra mesmerizing its prey before striking. What makes the attack all the more enjoyable is that Cavett is almost too pathetic a bow tied dweeb to merit attention from such a one as Paglia.

One imagines Hillary recoiling like a startled water buffalo from the cobra that has suddenly reared up in its path and bitten it on the nose. Cavett can only be envisioned twitching and stumbling around in circles like a stunned and suddenly spastic mouse awaiting ingestion, digestion and elimination.

And - for those of you who can control your dirty minds and avoid getting all judgmental there is this link to an article about a new robot that listens and talks and helps its inventor out with his finances.

Re the female "companion". I always have a bit of a chuckle when I see one of them. They are generally dressed in frilly pink outfits...a bit like school girls.

Actually Japan is having their share of problems in the area of relationships. I've read articles where men are having "relationships" with cyber girlfriends (these are software generated women). Then there are the women are choosing to buy puppies rather than get married.

I think they have "issues". :)

Happiness is a warm puppy gets 161,000 hits on google; so maybe Japanese women are on to something universal.

Of course happiness is a warm gun gets 590,000 google hits, but I think guns are pretty much banned in Japan.

I'm not even going to think about touching your "dressed. . . a bit like school girls" line except to report that pretty in pink gets 3,870,000 google results and frilly pink only gets 8,980.

This is off topic, but I thought you might want to view this video clip. You may recognize the 2nd speaker:

Arnold Kling did indeed seem familiar and just now I'm getting it that he used to post on tcs. And that lead me to go to tcsdaily and find you and some of the old gang commenting on new articles. I'll have to put that back on my favorites list.

That was an interesting tape by the way, at least the first two speakers. Of course Congress will ignore the good advice. If anything I think we will come out of this economic situation with an almost nationalized banking industry - free market enough to allow for games like Fannie and Freddie were playing and subsidized and regulated enough to force all banks to carry a heavy load of political office holders on the books of all the banks.

I'm sorry, I assumed that you were periodically stopping in at tcs to see if it was picking up steam.

Now that you've advertised your location, don't be surprised if you have a few brawls here. :)
